Kane the Imaginary Viking

So when i moved to San Francisco, I ended up spending a lot of time scouting out all the hardware shops and silicone retailers. I found this one place in Richmond, Ca called Douglas and Sturgess and i was able to chat with the clerk and ask a ton of questions about silicone and 2 part mixing, colors and making molds. He told me that he used to work at the San Francisco site when Henry Selick would come to spend some of that "Movie Money". We talked for a while and he mentioned that he knew a few people that were going to work for CinderBiter and I told him what I was trying to put together. I hit him with the Terminator "Ill be back" line and left there feeling the same way I felt when I got a Nintendo.

I built an armature and started out using Plasticine. Sculpting with that stuff is like sculpting with mashed potatoes so i gave up pretty quick. I found a pretty sweet blog of these two UK based stop motion guys, Joshua and Nathan Flynn. Chece these dudes out when you get a chance: http://nathan-flynn.blogspot.com/ .
There is so much information and tips on different materials, it definitely paved the way for me to figure out how to make a great puppet.

I abandoned this sculpt because the kid started to get pretty creepy in the face and I was moving too fast. Thought it would be a good idea to just start with the head and work around that. Did a few more head drawings to really get things to scale.

Worlds Greatest DJ Photos

Here are all the photos i could find of the sets that I was putting together. There was a really big set for the shopping mall shots, a hallway that lead to the apartment, an apartment interior set and an elevator set. Most of the sets were build with MDF and plywood. There was a ton of blue and pink foam used along with spackle, plaster for the rock wall (with sculpted foam for rocks) and PVC tubes for pillars.

Painted and final.
